The Autumn Reading List: Four festive books to read this Fall

There’s nothing more cozy than curling up on the couch with your favorite blanket, turning on the twinkle lights, sipping something warm, and reading an imagination-filled book during Fall. I say this because I think the Halloween to Christmas season really brings out our imagination and that calls for a particularly festive Autumn reading list. Below are four festive books I think you should read this Fall.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trilogy

This is probably an obvious suggestion of mine since it was just in my September favorites. But, it’s equal parts magical and mysterious which I think makes for the perfect Fall read. I love reading books during this time of year that push my imagination to places I had never considered before and this Miss Peregrine’s did just that.

The Night Circus

Similar to Miss Peregrine’s, this book too pushed my imagination beyond anything I could have dreamt up. It’s about a traveling circus that mysteriously appears one day. There were no signs of it coming and the doors only open at night. Along with this magical circus, there’s a developing story of two illusionists who are being trained to battle one another, but they aren’t aware who their opponent is, where or when the battle will commence, and what they are training to do. The story magically unfolds in a way so beautiful I can’t even describe it. The Night Circus continues to be one of my all-time favorites and it’s one you should consider adding to your Autumn reading list.

Harry Potter

Any book in the HP series really speaks for itself doesn’t it? Whether we watch the movies or read one of the magical books, Harry is a staple in our home during the cozy season.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

This one is actually on my Autumn reading list because I have yet to read it! You can read the full description of this book here, but it’s another book about battling magicians mixed with some historical fiction, so I’m all in. Any book that reinforces the possibility of hidden magic in an otherwise normal world is a book I need in my life.

What’s on your reading list during this cozy Fall season? Is there anything else I should add to mine? I’m currently halfway through book 2 in the Miss Peregrine trilogy!

More book suggestions here and here.

September was the month we celebrated our six year wedding anniversary! For some reason, this one feels like a big one to me. It’s neither a multiple of five (which always seems to be a milestone), or a year of huge accomplishment. But, six years is exciting because we’re onto another multipe of five year milestone. Does that make sense? :) It does to me. On Saturday we were at a family wedding and while talking to one of Jeff’s sisters I mentioned that we had been together for nine years total and Jeff couldn’t believe it. I don’t know if it was shock at the amount of time we had been together or shock that we started dating when we were teenagers and now we’re in our late twenties. Regardless, I’m so excited to be in our seventh year of marriage!

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children I picked this book up on a whim because I was attracted to the colorful cover and rich texture of the pages and it was luck of the draw because it’s now one of my all time favorite books, ever. The story premise focuses on a young boy named Jacob whose grandfather told him stories about these peculiar children he grew up with. Jacob didn’t believe the stories to be true until he went on a quest to find out for himself. And that’s all I’ll say so I don’t spoil it for you.

The author, Ransom Riggs, has a very captivating way of telling a story. I’m a huge fan of his writing after reading this book. The storyline was fascinating and magical, like that of a grown-up Harry Potter. I’m 100 pages into book 2 and the story has continued to mesmerize me.

My 2017 Rifle Paper Co wall calendar! It’s about that time of year where I’m booking into 2017 for clients and so it’s essential that I have a cute wall calendar to both look at and write on :)…right?

iPhone 6s Plus I got a new iPhone last month because my 6 completely stopped working. I was a little bit sad that I had to upgrade before the launch of the iPhone 7. But now that it’s out and there aren’t too many upgrades from the 6s, I’m happy with my decision. I absolutely love having a big screen on my phone.

That’s it for my September favorites. It wasn’t a crazy exciting month but I think adding an all-time favorite book to my list is worth a little something and celebrating six years of marriage deserves celebration. :)

The Autumn Refresh: Pairing down clutter

       autumn refresh

It’s that time of year where the dust is settling and we’re gearing up to get cozy and settled for the cold season! Blankets once tucked away in the top of the linen closet are being pulled down, flip-flops are being swapped for booties, and the only meal ideas I seem to have involve soup and roasted veggies. All fair indications of the season’s change that I love so dearly. Going into the Holiday season with a clean slate feels like the kind of order dreams are made of which is why the beginning of October is the perfect time for an Autumn refresh!

First and foremost, in case you missed yesterday’s post, I must wish you a Happy Fall!! This is truly my favorite time of year and I’m thrilled that it’s finally here. Now we just need the leaves to start changing and the weather to stay cool. So in other news, Jeff is on a new schedule at work now which has proved to be exceptionally detrimental to my productivity. It’s something that I’m working on, but as someone who thrives on some semblance of routine, it has taken a toll this week. Here are interesting things I found on the internet:

WEEKEND LINKS by lifestyle blogger Nicole Dianne | www.nicoledianne.com
This week was a special one because we celebrated our six year wedding anniversary. That feels sooo weird to say. You know what’s even more weird? Some of our wedding presents are starting to look real tired. Like all of our towels…our blender…our toaster…our spatulas…you guys, have we really been married long enough for our wedding gifts to need replacement? I think that might be an indicator that we’ve made it past a milestone, right? That. is. wild. In other news, I painted my nails the most Autumnal color I could find, I started burning pumpkin scented candles, and I’m pretty sure I spotted 3 leaves changing colors on the tree behind our neighbor’s house. So, it’s pretty much Halloween. Here are some links I thought you might enjoy…
