Engagement Session Do’s and Don’ts

Getting in front of the camera can be quite intimidating if you don’t know what to expect and how to prepare. Which is why I’m here to give you a few “Do’s and Don’ts” for your Engagement Session so you’ll walk in feeling confident and love your images in return!

Do consider using this as an opportunity to test your wedding day makeup. Often times makeup artists will do a trial run prior to your wedding day and there’s no better time to experiment than on your engagement session day. This will show you how the makeup will photograph so you’ll have a better idea of what you’ll look like in those super important wedding day images.

Do make this a special day together! Chances are you’re dressed up in your favorite outfits, you’ve had your makeup professionally done, and you’re somewhere special that’s been chosen for your session…so turn it into a date! I get it, it’s honestly tough to take time for each other during the crazy months of wedding planning. Which is why it’s so important to take every opportunity to invest back in each other and remember why you’ve decided to plan this whole wedding in the first place. Set aside your engagement session date and focus on each other, do something special and make it memorable.

Do consider how you’ll be using your Engagement photos so you know when to schedule your session. Do you plan to send them out with Save The Dates? Think roughly 5 to 7 months prior to your wedding day. Do you need these images in time for your bridal shower or Engagement party to put on display? Allow at least 2-4 weeks for your photographer to edit and deliver the final product. Or do you simply want these images as a keepsake to put into an album? In that case the timing of this isn’t too crucial, in fact..my husband and I took our Engagement photos 2 weeks prior to our wedding so I could save on a trip to my hairdresser for updated highlights! #Priorities ;) This will vary for everyone, but it’s important to know if there’s a deadline to be met!

Don’t stress! Your Engagement Session is all about having a good time and experimenting before your wedding day. This is our time to get to know each other and to get you comfortable interacting in front of the camera so you’ll be camera-ready on your wedding day. Brides come to me because they want those candid moments, and this is our time to figure out the best way to achieve that on your wedding day. Getting in front of the camera can be completely paralyzing and scary for some people but it’s my goal to put you at ease and have you walk away feeling confident. I want you to love your images and feel ready for your wedding day!

Our time together will be fun..I promise :)
